I figure it out.

An employer once made me business cards with the job title “I.F.F.I.O.” It stood for “I figure it out” (you can infer what the other “F” was). My greatest value is not in having the answers but in knowing how to get them, and then knowing how to execute.

I work in plaintiff-side litigation, usually where the record is large, messy, technical, or incomplete. Over the past decade, my work has ranged from legal research and writing, case assessment, medical-record analysis, and factual investigation to discovery, litigation operations, and complex-document review. I tend to turn difficult records into something useful: a theory, a chronology, a discovery plan, an investigation, or a written strategy.

A lot of the work I enjoy begins with a question that does not have an obvious answer: What is missing? Who else would have this record? What would have to be true for the other side’s story to work? Curiosity does most of the heavy lifting. The rest is persistence—learning a new subject, writing a script, finding the right public record, or building a tool if that is what it takes. I do not need to know how to do everything before I start. I need to be able to figure it out.
